Study Tours

''PIADS Study de Tour 2015'

has been scheduled

and the Final Posters are out!

Our country is bestowed with rich architectural heritage which is a result of geo - climatic, cultural, political, economic and technological factors. Learning about our past is essential to understand the present and project the future. This is possible through the educational tours to places of historical importance and modern advanced examples of architecture. At our institute, we believe students should be exposed to the best architectural practices through architectural study excursions.

To promote & execute these tours a set of guidelines were prepared under the guidance of our Director Prof. Habeeb Khan in 2013.  These tours are study oriented yet fun and interesting.  They involve the entire faculty and all the students.

It's like a PIADS TOUR EXPO where teachers work hard and come up with various options for study tours which are educational & refreshing for the students.  The tours are both domestic and international.  Students can choose from different options according to their interest and budget.  We found it to be a great example of study.  Once back, the students participate in the "Tour-Fair" where they present their tour documentation/assignments to the rest of the college.

In the past few years, tours to the following destinations were organized:-

a. International –Dubai, Sri lanka, Bhutan,

b National - Agra – Fatehpursikri, Rajasthan, Pune-Mumbai, Auroville, Humpi,

Pattadakal, Kerala, Gujrat (Kutch), Andaman, Kontan Forts, Kanyakumari,

Hyderabad, Mandu-Maheshwar, Bhopal etc.

c. Local -  Ramtek, Anandwan, Wardha etc.

Apart from academics we believe in keeping in touch with current trends, market and new innovation as well as concerns related to Architecture. Our Cerebral Mondays are series of lectures, workshop and talks on variety of subjects by our own faculty to enlighten the student on the same.

Archi Days!!!

A formal body of student representatives was formed, consisting of a  secretary, treasurer etc. to successfully conduct the events in the institute with participation of students and faculty. This venture not only exposes students to management skills which is going to help them in real world  but also gives an opportunity to interact informally with the teachers. The first event  was the Teachers Day celebration accompanied with the exhibition which focused on making it a special day for the teachers by entertaining them with cultural performances and on the spot events. The exhibition held a more serious note as it looked back on the work they had done in their college time. The exhibition not only helped enlighten the students but also delighted the teachers.

The other major event conducted by the student body was the annual fest, ‘Archi-Days’.

Raggawali

Archi-days 2015 - Exploring the colors of life.  The college fest which is a week-long celebration was held in February.  It was a delightful and enthusiastic program conducted by the students in concern with the faculty PIADS.  It also consisted of a welcome session for all the toddlers of the institute - "The Fresher's" and a grand ceremonial farewell to all the going to be architects of the institute - informal convocation and oath taking ceremony with several other cerebral days.

Joint Studio at PIADS

25th august 2012 - PIADS – LTIADS Joint studio, Nagpur

As always excitement is driven by the unknown, we seek thrill in understanding something new and we were really in for a surprise. The day began with our induction and tour of PIADS followed by a session of design briefing by the director Ar. Habeeb Khan, on sustainability of material and use of local material, such as brick, mud and stone. Materials native to the site of the design. As students seeking the thrill of the design, we were given a criteria of choosing these materials, anyone of them and then as an additional challenge we were to design this school in a cost effective manner, in the sense that the built structure must be economical and multi-functional in its purpose. As Ar. Habeeb Khan further briefed us about the site, he mentioned an important aspect of the design and the situation of a programme  which was a school to be built, taking the rural context as its foreground.

None the less our first day was a hectic dilemma of building construction and design programme as is any type of architectural competition or project. In the midst of all this curiosity and excitement new friendships sprung, as we got more acquainted and comfortable with our host institute we started developing a bond with them. This bond would go on to really make us share and understand the concept of our schools much better. The day began with excitement and ended with it, the excitement of going back to our hostels and rewind on our learning’s for the day. The next few days went in forming groups and creating the designs for a school. During this time many ideas were exchanged and plenty was learned. A trip to CSV Wardha, a lecture on building construction and services application and a visit, further cleared all the doubts on rural methodologies of efficiency in a structure.
